Our History

The idea for The International Montessori School in Sotogrande was born 20 years ago when Founder, Owner and Director, Olimpia Tardá was looking for a nursery school for her first child. Unable to find quite what she was looking for, she created her own school. Olimpia firmly believes that child care should be linked to a quality education, enabling the development of the child in a loving environment where the emphasis is on learning together: where the teacher is a facilitator in that learning.

Twenty years´ experience of running a number of nursery schools in the area, including Nanitos in Sotogrande, has led us all to the unique learning space we call the International Montessori School. This is a school for people interested in a new way of living: who believe that children should be invested in as the seeds of our present, and who will help shape our future.  IMS is not just a place, but rather a big family that is fully committed to caring for and teaching every individual child to make the most of his or her abilities at the pace which suits them. We know that our greatest allies are our families who have joined us in our quest to provide the most meaningful path through life for our children. We look forward to sharing this journey with you.
