A day in the Infant Community: A Montessori Experience
A warm welcome to our Montessori school in Spain
Relocating to Spain with young children can be an exciting yet challenging experience, especially when it comes to choosing the right educational environment. At the International Montessori school in Spain, we provide a nurturing, bilingual space where young children can develop independence, confidence, and a lifelong love for learning. Our Infant Community (ages 0-3) offers a carefully prepared setting designed to support early childhood development through hands-on learning, self-discovery, and meaningful social interactions.
What does a typical day look like in our Infant Community?
Let’s take a closer look!
Morning Routine: Independence and order

When we arrive in the morning, the first thing we do after greeting our teachers is change our shoes for more comfortable ones, allowing us to move around the classroom freely. We take our belongings out of our backpacks and put everything in its place. This routine helps us recognize our names, develop a sense of order, practice courtesy, and become more independent.
Montessori Work Time: Hands-On Learning

After settling in, we begin our work period. The best part is that we can choose the materials that interest us the most. Our teacher, a trained Montessori guide, carefully prepares the classroom environment with work trays suited to our level of development.
These activities allow us to explore various skills, such as:
Art and Creativity – Engaging in painting, drawing, and crafts.
Self-Care and Practical Life Skills – Learning to dress ourselves, wash our hands, and pour water.
Environmental Care – Watering plants, cleaning, and organizing materials.
Language Development – Exploring books, vocabulary cards, and practicing communication.
Fine Motor and Coordination Skills – Transferring objects, threading beads, and puzzle work.
Food Preparation – Squeezing oranges, cutting fruit, and setting the table.
We also have a cozy reading area with books placed on shelves at our height, allowing us to access them whenever we want.
Circle Time: Bilingual Learning and Social Interaction
At some point in the day, when our focus begins to shift, our teachers gather us in a circle. Together, we sing songs, listen to stories, and explore vocabulary cards related to our current learning theme. These activities are always conducted in both English and Spanish, helping us develop bilingual skills from an early age.
Since our brains absorb everything like sponges, our teachers ensure that we are surrounded by rich, engaging, and age-appropriate stimuli that enhance our learning experience.
Outdoor Play: Movement and Exploration

• Next, we visit the bathroom to freshen up before heading outside to play. In the playground, we:
• Take care of the garden, learning responsibility and patience.
• Engage in physical activities that help develop strength and coordination.
• Enjoy the fresh air while interacting with our classmates.
Lunchtime: Learning Independence and Social Skills
After an active morning, we return to the classroom, wash our hands, and prepare for lunch. We take part in setting the table, and once everyone is seated, we say “buen provecho” (enjoy your meal) before eating.
Lunchtime teaches us important skills:
• Practicing independent eating at our own pace.
• Using proper table manners and polite expressions.
• Cleaning up after ourselves, contributing to a tidy environment.
Rest Time: Relaxation and Recharging
After a busy morning of learning and play, we take off our shoes and settle down for a nap. Rest is an essential part of our day, allowing us to recharge for the afternoon.
Afternoon Activities: Special Visitors and Enrichment
• Once we wake up, it’s time to go home, but sometimes, we have special visitors! On different days, we might:
• Listen to live music from teachers who introduce us to different instruments and musical notes.
• Practice yoga with a teacher who guides us through calming movements and relaxation techniques.
• Enjoy interactive storytelling, where we engage with songs and imaginative tales.
