A Day in Casa de Niños: Discover a Unique Approach to Learning

Morning Welcome: A Calm and Purposeful Start

In our Casa de Niños environment, each day presents a new opportunity for children to discover, learn, and grow independently in a respectful and stimulating setting.
At 9:00 am, we begin the day with a warm and welcoming morning assembly, where we greet each child and review the day’s calendar. Through songs and games, children explore the days of the week, months of the year, numbers, weather, continents, and letter sounds—while reinforcing classroom rules and core values such as respect and cooperation.

Freedom to Choose: Montessori Work Cycle

From 9:30 am to 10:45 am, children are free to choose from a wide variety of Montessori materials across different learning areas:

Practical Life

This area focuses on everyday skills and encourages independence. Children engage in activities like pouring water, buttoning, wiping tables, sweeping, or caring for plants. These tasks support concentration, coordination, and self-discipline while helping children feel capable and responsible.

Sensorial

Sensory materials help children refine their senses—sight, hearing, touch, taste, and smell. Activities such as colour matching, texture sorting, sound games, and shape exploration develop keen observation and logical thinking. These materials isolate specific qualities, allowing children to categorise their world and build mathematical reasoning.

Mathematics

Concrete materials introduce abstract mathematical concepts. Children work with number rods, beads, and counters to learn quantity, operations, and sequencing. Concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are presented in tangible, engaging ways.

Language

Language materials support reading, writing, and verbal expression. Children develop fine motor skills through writing tools and are encouraged to read, tell stories, sing songs, and participate in conversations—naturally cultivating a love of language.

Cultural Areas (Geography, Botany, Zoology)

Children explore the world through globes, maps, and hands-on materials. They learn about continents, countries, animals, and plants, fostering curiosity and appreciation for global diversity and the natural world.

Individualised Learning Through Freedom of Choice

This carefully prepared environment not only nurtures natural curiosity but also supports an individualised learning journey—allowing each child to progress at their own pace.

Grace and Courtesy

Throughout the morning, children engage in social-emotional learning through role-play and guided activities, practicing kindness, empathy, and collaboration.

Cultural Exploration Days

Once a week, we dedicate a special day to dive deeper into cultural topics like geography, botany, zoology, and world cultures. Through mini-projects, children research, explore, and share fascinating discoveries in dynamic and creative ways.

We enhance learning with:

  • Audiovisual materials such as videos and presentations
  • Real objects for observation and hands-on experiences

These sessions foster critical thinking, curiosity, and communication skills.

We also include a creative art activity using recycled materials—allowing children to express their learning through imaginative crafts.

Responsibility and Community Contribution

At 11:45 am, children help tidy the classroom by choosing a task—such as wiping tables, organising books, or watering plants. This shared responsibility promotes teamwork, accountability, and care for their environment.

Snack and Outdoor Play

After a light snack, the children enjoy free play in the outdoor area, encouraging physical activity, social interaction, and fun until 12:45 pm.
