The Child

Imagine your 18 month old child eating on her own with a spoon, putting on and taking off her coat without help, or at 24 months helping a smaller friend with her shoes? This is what happens in the Infant Community.

The Method

Between the ages of 0 and 3 years old, children have an enormous capacity to absorb knowledge from their environment. This is what Maria Montessori called ´the absorbent mind´. Our objective during this period is to enable children to experience learning away from home and their parents, in order to develop their own independence and a positive attitude toward learning.

In this environment your child will be cared for by loving and nurturing teachers, who create a peaceful, supportive and safe place for your child to develop. Here your child’s natural passion for exploration and discovery will be allowed to flourish and their curiosity will come alive. Spending time in the classroom will give your child their first experience of structured contact with other children and develop the tools to socialise with others.

Learning Areas

Our aim is to encourage independence and physical and language development in our youngest children. We do this by the use of many sensory materials which help develop the brain. The Infant Community is kept small, intimate and flexible so that the needs of each child can be met at all times. During the years in this stage of our school they will develop self-confidence and self-esteem, learn to socialise with other children, and gain a real sense of independence and autonomy.
